The Yoke Wasn’t Funny

I had always dreamed of being in the MHC. On a summer evening back in ’96 , that dream came true. My girlfriend I took my fathers C-182 up for short local night flight in Midland, TX. Before we took off, I mentioned that we should join the MHC. She just kinda laughed and said, “yeah right!”. She’s shy and really not too open to things like that. I blew it off and we took off into the night. As we were flying, I intentionally climbed up to @ 5280ft AGL. I mentioned the MHC to her again and to my surprise she said OK! I climbed about another 500ft for good measure and flicked on the S-TEC auto pilot. It will hold altitude and heading and all I had to do to turn the plane was turn the heading bug to wherever I wanted to go. She started to strip down as I tried to figure out how to do this without killing us both. She didn’t want to move from the seat( she was sitting in the left seat)so the only option was for me to get between her and the control yoke, facing the back of the plane. She had to scoot to the edge of the seat, and I finally got inside of her. Things were great as I was humping away on my knees, my ass sometimes bumping the control yoke. After a minute or two, I looked up and noticed that the lights of Big Spring, TX were at about a 45 degree angle. Apparently, my ass had hit the auto pilot disengage button on the control yoke. I had to pull out, spin, turn the plane back to level, reset the auto pilot, spin and re-insert. This whole process probably took 5 seconds. It was dark, but I bet she was as white as a ghost! I finished about 10 min later passing over I-20 somewhere between Big Spring and Midland. I remember looking down at the cars and saying, “hey, guess what we just did?!”. I am still with her to this day, but that was our only MHC moment. She might do it again, but only if my ass stays way clear of the control yoke!
